Update on Bow Trail Widening and Intersection Upgrades Project

Jun 11th, 2017 | By | Category: City News

As part of the Bow Trail widening project, interim improvements will be made to the intersection of Bow Trail and 85 Street S.W. These improvements include extending the southbound left turning lane on 85 Street north of Bow Trail and adding a second westbound left turning lane on Bow Trail. Construction is scheduled to begin in June or July this summer and is expected to be complete in August. Periodic lane closures and speed reductions may occur, mainly during off-peak hours. We thank you for your patience.

The City will be widening Bow Trail to four lanes between 85 Street S.W. and Old Banff Coach Road in 2018. The design of this project began in April 2017, and is expected to be complete by December 2017. Further work on the intersection at Bow Trail and 85 Street will also be occurring in 2018 and the plans include widening 85 Street to two through lanes north of Bow Trail to match the road alignment to the south, including a separate left turning lane for drivers travelling eastbound on Bow Trail. Construction on this project is anticipated to start in spring 2018 and will be completed by the end of 2018.

A public information session will be held in fall 2017 to provide updates to nearby communities. Please visit www.calgary.ca/bowtrail-swrr for more information on the project and upcoming construction.
