2017 Municipal Elections

In the upcoming Municipal elections this Fall, you will be able to vote for your Mayor, Ward 6 Councillor, and School Board Trustees.  Election Day is Monday, October 16, or you can choose to cast your ballot during the Advance Vote from October 4 – 11 (excluding Thanksgiving on October 9). There are many ways to vote, so check the website for a complete list of options, including a mail-in ballot this year. Voting station locations will be available online after September 19, 2017, or you can watch the mail for your official Election Guide.

New for 2017

New ward boundaries will be going into effect for the 2017 Election in order to address an imbalance in the city population distribution across wards. If you are currently in Ward 6, you will remain so. However, the community of Westgate (north of Glendale) and the Trinity Hills/Winsport area (south of 16 Ave NW) will also become part of Ward 6. Visit to check your ward candidate profiles.

A Personal Message

As many of you many know, I will not be seeking re-election on October 16. This will be my last newsletter update. It has been an absolute privilege and pleasure to serve as the City Councillor for everyone in Ward 6, and I am proud of the collaborative work all of us accomplished to make Calgary better each day.

Among many projects, it has been especially meaningful for me working with volunteers, communities, City Administration and The King’s Own Calgary Regiment to establish the Battalion Park Remembrance Day ceremony and help it grow into a significant annual community event attended by thousands of people on November 11.

Building an even higher quality of community life for everyone was a priority for me when I ran for office. The quality of our day-to-day lives is the foundation for our success as a city.  Without strong neighbourhoods supporting our families, we cannot fully appreciate our City or reach our potential.  Furthermore, without a successful community life, we cannot provide support for the quality of work life necessary to drive our economic future.

To help ensure the future of this amazing Ward, I have one parting request. Get involved! Vote on October 16. Volunteer for one of the new candidates. Help out at your neighbourhood block party. Join your community association board and help it grow. Know that we are better together, and you can contribute in meaningful ways that will make a substantial impact. I am very optimistic about our great city and I look forward to supporting all Calgarians and City Council in a variety of ways in the future. Over the past seven years your ideas, suggestions and energy have been vital to sustaining my work. Thank you residents of Ward 6!
