Strathcona Resident Ellen Gasser receives White Hat Award

Jun 7th, 2019 | By | Category: City News

On May 15, the local tourism industry honoured the city’s best hosts during the 57th Annual Calgary White Hat Awards at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium.  Strathcona Resident, Ellen Gasser was the recipient of the Mayor’s White Hat Award for her outstanding work at Heritage Park Historical Society over the past 11 years, and at other Calgary attractions prior to that.

Ellen has contributed to Calgary’s tourism industry for over 30 years.  One of the programs she is most proud of is Heritage Park’s Aboriginal program which she has been instrumental in developing.

As Ellen tells it, “Winning the award means a lot to me, particularly because the idea came from one of the volunteers who works for me and the nomination was supported by letters from many of my paid and volunteer staff at Heritage Park.  I was quite overwhelmed just to read the letters and considered myself a winner just to be nominated by them, but never imagined I would walk the stage and actually receive the white hat from the Mayor.”

Congratulations Ellen and thank you for your contributions!
