Benefits of Tai Chi

Today, a person wanting good health requires the harmonious interplay between mind and body. But our fast-paced, stress-inducing society has produced a germinating health crisis which is predetermining our own fate for several generations to come.

To alleviate such stress-related symptoms we continually search for solutions: from medications (prescribed and non-prescribed) to mind and body therapies in both the traditional and alternative fields. While some methods are causing serious maladies, there are several proven therapies which are producing positive low-risk results. One such therapy is Tai Chi.

Tai Chi is a weight-bearing, low impact aerobic exercise which can be performed by anyone, regardless of age or physical condition.

Tai Chi is about changing our internal structure so that life becomes more joyful. Also, it changes our perception by removing fear and instilling a greater sense of confidence.

Tai Chi’s effectiveness is steeped in the ancient philosophies and therapeutic principles based on returning the body to a more natural state of health and well being. It accomplishes this by combining both external and internal forces.

Externally, Tai Chi improves the circulation of bodily fluids and increases strength and range of motion by stretching the muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Internally, Tai Chi uses a calm mind to accumulate the “Chi (internal energy)” and release its flow in a natural way to protect against all elements be they human, animal, or disease.

The learning process of Tai Chi is spiral in nature. As this process becomes more intricate the spiralling movements should become smoother and smaller where one approaches the ultimate goal of inner balance through a unified state of mind and body.

Once the harmonious union of mind and body is achieved your perspective changes. Tai Chi no longer becomes a personal quest. Instead it becomes a broader self-fulfilling journey where one’s relationships are in balance with an immovable spirit

Tai Chi

Men are born soft and supple

Dead they are stiff and hard

Plants are born tender and pliant

Dead they are brittle and dry

Thus whoever is stiff and inflexibleIs a disciple of death

Whoever is soft and yieldingIs a disciple of life

The hard and stiff will be broken

The soft and supple will prevail

~Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching
