Chair Yoga

Why try yoga?

  • Improve your mobility, strength, balance and vitality.
  • Explore the breath and relaxation.
  • We work hard with our bodies, and learn to rest fully. Your experienced instructor, Sherry, will give options for older adults with mobility or other health issues.  Chairs will be handy for use as yoga props, or for assistance with balance.  Yoga is about connecting with your body and breath, and MINDFULLY moving in safe and healthy ways, for the long haul.  You will gain confidence as you explore the movement.  All participants must have a current SCA membership (just $20/year).

Chair yoga offers a gentle yet effective way for people of all ages and abilities to experience the benefits of yoga in a safe and supportive environment. Benefits of yoga include improved flexibility, strength, posture, reduced stress levels, better concentration, and a greater sense of overall well-being. Offered in-person in the Founders’ Room and online through Zoom.

Sherry has been teaching Chair Yoga at SCA for 8 years and is a highly trained yoga teacher with certifications in yoga therapy, restorative yoga and pelvic floor health. Throughout the class, she will adapt poses to suit all sensitivities (arthritis, injuries etc.) so that participants feel supported and comfortable. Emphasis is placed on moving at one’s own pace, maintaining good posture, and listening to our bodies. All classes are designed to be accessible and fun for everyone!
