Dec 30 Re: Water Main Break - Water Restriction Information
On the evening of December 30th, a major water main break occurred east of the Sarcee Trail / 16 Ave N.W. interchange. This break caused significant flooding, requiring emergency response. The City’s water services team responded right away and remain at the site. Early this morning, the Water Services Team has identified the location of the break.
Given the size of the break, the City of Calgary has activated our Emergency Plan, and Emergency Operations Center. At this moment, stage 4 water restrictions are in place. Additionally, a boil water advisory is in place for the communities of Parkdale, Montgomery, and Point Mackay.
To protect water supply while crews work 24/7 on repairs, all Calgarians are asked to conserve water:
· Keep showers under 3 minutes.
· Flush toilets only when necessary.
· Run dishwashers and laundry only when full.
For arenas, indoor pools, and recreation centres:
· Outdoor ice rinks cannot be flooded or constructed.
· Organizations, such as recreation centres, will be asked to implement their water restriction plans.
16 Avenue N.W. at Sarcee Trail Remains closed. Please avoid the area.
Updates will be shared through www.Calgary.ca, social media, and local media. This advisory remains in effect until further notice.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as crews continue emergency repairs.
